Gut Healing Shake

One of my go-to shakes lately especially with my gut healing protocol to heal my leaky gut. This has been so easy on my stomach and I’ve loved changing the combo with hemp protein and collagen and then throwing in different fruits to change the taste but keep the basic components there.

For one, the yogurt I use is my homemade in the InstantPot. It’s been great for my gut. Because it is a fermented food it can serve as a probiotic and has healing abilities by adding that good bacteria to the gut.

Additionally, adding Omegas to the diet is key. They provide the starting point for making hormones that regulate blood clotting, contraction and relaxation of artery walls, and inflammation. Adding in walnuts and Flax oil will be a great source of nutrients and help keep me feeling satisfied all morning!

And of course we can’t forget the protein. You absolutely need protein in your diet to help your body repair cells and make new ones. It’s that simple. Finding clean sources of protein is super important as so many are diluted or contain sugar or sugar alternatives. I personally like just basic hemp protein and Vital proteins.

Now, let’s get to the good part.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 8-10oz FULL-fat unsweetened coconut milk, unsweetened almond milk,  or filtered water (adjust based on how thick you desire your shake) 

  • PROTEIN SOURCE: ¾ cup full fat, whole milk yogurt AND / OR clean protein powder (Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides or Nutiva Hemp Protein, or a scoop of each!)

  • 2 CUPS Spinach (fist-sized portions) (or some other leafy green: Swiss chard, kale, bok choy, collard greens...spinach is virtually flavorless in smoothies so it's usually the go-to. Don’t want greens, choose zucchini, cauliflower, carrot, squash, beets, etc)

  • ½ banana and/or ½  cupped handful of frozen organic strawberries (or 1 cupped hand-sized portion of any other fruit... Apples, Berries, Cherries, strawberries, blueberries)

  • 1 small handful chopped walnuts

  • 1 tbsp flaxseed oil (Barlean’s is a good brand)

  • ½ tsp organic raw honey (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Blend all ingredients until smooth and enjoy! Great for on-the-go!
